Meet Aleph Champ
A Hebrew School original
Students don’t just learn—they race through color levels, each achievement fueling their excitement to reach teacher-level mastery!

Once Upon an Aleph
Aleph Champ began when a Chabad Hebrew School Director gained inspiration from her experience in a Torah Dojo Karate class. She observed several key parallels between learning Karate and teaching Hebrew reading:
- Both programs typically operated once a week, creating large gaps between sessions
- Parents often lacked the expertise to assist with practice at home
- Both settings included students of varying skill levels in the same classroom
However, she noticed a critical difference: Karate students showed greater motivation to progress, practiced regularly for tests, and advanced quickly through levels. Hebrew reading students, meanwhile, often studied for years without significant motivation and struggled to read properly by their Bar/Bat Mitzvah.
How it works
The program applies the Karate belt system to Hebrew reading:
- Color-Coded Levels: The program divides Hebrew reading skills into 10 progressive color levels, similar to Karate belts
- Clear Advancement Path: Students understand exactly what they need to master to progress to the next level
- Visual Status Recognition: The color system makes each student’s current level immediately apparent
- Structured Curriculum: Following traditional teaching methods for the Aleph Bet as prescribed by Jewish sages
- Engaging Activities: Incorporates games and activities to help students meet their goals
Impact
Aleph Champ helps kids feel motivated and proud of their progress as they build Hebrew reading skills. With clear goals and a strong sense of purpose, they advance at their own pace and approach their Bar/Bat Mitzvahs with newfound confidence in reading, and a solid foundation for the future.

Frequently
Asked Questions

What is the drop-off and pick-up procedure?
Drop-off time is from 9:20 to 9:30 AM. Parents are welcome to either pull up and drop off their child or park and walk them inside. Pick-up is at dismissal time, and we ask that parents arrive on time to ensure a smooth and safe dismissal.
Can I pick up my child early if needed?
We understand that sometimes unexpected situations come up. However, early pick-up is strongly discouraged because it disrupts your child’s learning and the flow of the class. If there is an urgent need, please text Morah Fraida at least ten minutes before arrival, and we will have your child waiting at the door for you.
What should my child wear or bring to Hebrew School?
We kindly ask that all boys come with a kippah as this is part of our school policy. For snack time, we provide biscuits, but if your child prefers to bring something from home it can be a fruit or vegetable. Outside food and drinks are not allowed.
What are the basic rules my child should follow while at Hebrew School?
Our rules are designed to create a safe, respectful, and positive environment where every child can learn and have fun. Students are expected to stay in their classroom or use the washroom on the second floor. Wandering around the building is not permitted. A teacher must always be present when students are outside the classroom, including during recess. We also ask students to take care of our building and not write on walls, tables, or furniture. Parents will be responsible for any damage caused. For safety reasons, students may not sit on tables or drag chairs and tables. Only teachers are allowed to move furniture, and table legs must always be locked in place. We also ask that students not touch the blinds in the classrooms.
How does Hebrew School handle accidents or illnesses?
The safety and well-being of our students is very important to us. Minor injuries like small cuts or bruises will be handled by our staff. If there is any question about the seriousness of an injury or if a child becomes unwell during school, parents will be contacted right away.
Will my child receive homework?
A small amount of homework will occasionally be given, especially since we are trying to give your child a proper Jewish education in a very short amount of time. We believe that homework is a valuable tool to help reinforce what was learned in class. We encourage parents to support and supervise their children’s homework to help them succeed.
What is the policy on lateness and absences?
We kindly ask parents to help teach their children the importance of being on time and attending consistently. We understand that families are busy and weekends can be full of events and trips, but regular attendance is the key to your child’s success at Hebrew School. Children who miss too many classes often fall behind and lose confidence, so your partnership in this is very appreciated.
What is the tuition fee schedule and refund policy?
A $100 deposit is required at the time of registration. This deposit will only be charged once your child is accepted and is non-refundable and non-transferable. All tuition fees must be paid in full by December 31. If you need to cancel your child’s registration, you may receive a 50% refund if you withdraw before November 15, or a 25% refund before December 15. After December 15, no refunds will be given. Please note that refunds are not available for daily or weekly absences, and all cancellations must be submitted by email.
